MBTA Commuter Train on the Historic Canton Viaduct
From a slide dated May, 1983 - The train is on the historic Canton Viaduct which dates back to 1835. When it was built for the Boston and Providence Railroad it was the tallest and longest railroad viaduct in the world. An MBTA F40 pulls a train of Pullman Standard push-pull cars on Amtrak's busy Northeast Corridor. In 1983 the South Side commuter trains were operated by the Boston and Maine RR under contract to the MBTA.
