Mystic River - MBTA FP10
Scanned from a slide dated July, 1979. The MBTA built this bridge over the Mystic River between Somerville and Medford (Massachusetts). It has 4 tracks, three with a third rail for Orange Line rapid transit and one for commuter rail. It replaces a much older drawbridge owned by the Boston and Maine Railroad. This used to be the Western Route Main Line of the BM Portland Division. Now it is the Reading / Haverhill line for MBTA commuter rail. An FP10 is pushing a train of GO Transit coaches on lease from Toronto across the river while an Orange line train is running on an adjacent track. Yes this is the same Mystic River that gave its name to the movie "Mystic River".
